The department of food science and technology was founded in April, 2004 after the Board of Studies approved the Course under The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Saki Campus. It started as a part of the department of Science Laboratory Technology running the National Diploma (ND) programme in Food Science and Technology The current Head of the Department is Mr. J.O Babalola.
It became a full fledge department in 2007 and became the department of Food Science and Technology after a successful accreditation.
From 2004 to date, the department has produced a highly qualified National and Higher National Diploma graduate who occupy various positions of repute in private and public Food Institution in Nigeria and Abroad.
The department wrote proposal on Bakery, Pure Water Factory which inturned the major IGR for the Institution now.
New Standard Laboratory building has just been handed over to the department by the Management under the leadership of Mr. M.O. Oladeji (The Rector). The building comprises of;
- Food Microbiology Laboratory
- Food Processing Laboratory
- Food Instrumentation Laboratory
- Food Quality Control Laboratory
