General Information

Estate Management as a Course of study in Saki Campus of The Polytechnic, Ibadan took off as a unit of the Department of Art and Social Studies in November 1981. By 1982/83 academic session, Estate Management Unit became an integral part of Town Planning and Estate Management Department in 1986, the Unit became full-fledged Department in 1988, Estate Management was again joined with Quantity Surveying. This arrangement continued until October, 1995 when the Department regained its autonomy as an independent Department in Saki Campus following the accreditation exercise of that year. The Department is a unit in School of Environmental Studies at The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki.

Admission Requirements of the programme

National Diploma

Candidates who desire to be admitted into the programme should possess:

  1. Five GCE O’Level or WASC, SSCE, NECO, NABTEB or their equivalent with credit passed in
  2. English Langauge, Mathematics and Economics compulsory
  3. Any one from Biology, Chemistry, Physics

And other subject from the following Geography, Government, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Technical Drawing, Woodwork, Literature, Metal Work, Accounting

  1. A successful pre-ND Environmental Studies of The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki (TOPS) will be admitted into the Estate Management programme
  2. Any qualified National Diplomates of The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki (TOPS) and other Polytechnics within and outside Nigeria will also be Considered for HND admission subject to vacancy.

Higher National Diploma

Candidates who desires to be admitted into the programme should possess:

a.       O’Level requirement for National Diploma

b.      National Diploma certificate

c.       One (1) year Industrial Training

Course Objectives:

The National Diploma programme provides adequate understanding and skills for the management of the whole physical environment, including the economic, financial, constructional, legal, social and political aspects.  It also examines the techniques, quantitative and qualitative tools, used in the practice of Estate Management.  In specific terms, the graduates should, among others, be able:

To survey, inspect and report on land and landed properties (particularly the locational and structural conditions) for development, management, maintenance, repairs valuation purposes

To examine, produce and interpret building plans as well as take measurements of land and buildings

To carry out market surveys and other enquiries on properties and to collect, compile and compute data for valuation purposes

To manage properties for landlords in relation to selection of tenants, service of notices to quit premises, and management of buildings, facilities, etc.

To inspect and report on state lands as well as assist in the implementation of policies regarding acquisition, allocation and administration of land resources

To assist in processing and registration of title documents such as Certificate of Occupancy, Deed of Mortgage, Deed of Assignment and sub-lease.

The Higher National Diploma in Estate Management is aimed at providing adequate understanding and skills for the management of the whole physical environment, including the economic, the financial, constructional, legal, social and political aspects as well as examining the techniques both quantitative and qualitative tools used in the practice of estate management.  On completion of the programme, the graduate should be able to:

Take measure ement of land and buildings

Carry out market surveys and other enquires on properties

Collect, compile and compute data for valuation purposes

Survey, inspect and report on locational and structural conditions of properties for management, maintenance, repairs and valuation purposes

Inspect state lands and make regular reports

Manage properties for landlord in relation to selection of tenants, service of notices to quit premises, renewal of lease and maintenance of buildings, etc.

Examine and interpret building plans

Assist in the implementation of policies regarding allocation and administration of land resources

Assist in the processing of application for right of occupancy and subsequent transactions

Assist in the registration of title documents i.e. c of o, deeds of mortgage, deed of assignment and subleases

Assist the public with government notices to compulsorily acquire rights of occupancy

Carry out routine control, supervision and occupation of government land and collection of rent and licence fees

Assist in keeping estate accounts for clients, among others.

THE PROFILE OF THE  HEAD OF DEPARTMENT

Esv  Ismail Olaniyi OLOJEDE Msc, Anivs, Rsv

He attended Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, between 1992/1993 and 1998/1999 session. He joined the then saki campus of The Polytechnic, Ibadan (now the Oke-ogun Polytechnic, Saki) in 2002/2003 session as a Teaching Assistant, and he got a substantive appointment in 2006 as lecturer III. The appointment was confirmed in 2009 and he was promoted to the post of lecturer II in 2010. He became the chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, The Polytechnic Ibadan, Saki Campus between 2010 and 2014. He got another promotion from the post of lecturer II to the post of lecturer I in 2013.

He became an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers in 2012 (February) and a Registered member of Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON) in January 2013. He obtained a Master of science (M.Sc) degree in Estate Mnagement from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) February 2015 and was appointed as the new Head of Department in the same month of February 2015. He has been a member of various committees in the campus such as School coordinating committee, School Level Promotion Committee, ASUP Care-Taker committee, ASUP NEEDS Assessment committee, ASUP Negotiation committee and the Departmental Examination Officer and Secretary to the Departmental meetings. To mention but few, He is happily married with children.
